CHAIR made with straws

another amazing piece and creative ideas from Scott Jarvie....i was stunned

THE CLUTCH CHAIR
2007-2008
Made from 10,000 drinking straws, the Clutch Chair is an exploratory research piece that passes comment on our disposable culture. The development process of this piece also informed that of the Clutch Light, both of which were developed from an observation of the structural characteristics of trees.
This piece was selected by Zaha Hadid as her Curators Choice at Noise Festeval 2008
The Clutch Project began as a microscopic observation of the structural composition of trees and the directional properties of Capillary tubes (xylem).
Detail of the seating surface of the Clutch Chair
Ubiquitous drinking straws are grouped and transformed into a primitive spot light. The reflective inner surface of the straw transmits the light in a directional manner creating a jewelesque effect.

The Wire Chair

I am a fan of Scott Jarvie now! i was randomly searching about the chinese wire craft that i saw in China on the internet, but then i couldn't find any information or pictures to put it on my blog...but then i found this unique chair made by Scott with wire....i found the design looks elegant eventhough it's made from simple materials....the curve and shape of the chair make it look stunning...

WIRE CHAIR
2007-2008
The Wire Chair is fabricated to imply two continuous sections of rod. The final form was created using a combination of the latest computer aided design technology and the age old traditions of Scottish metal working.
The Wire Chair received an International Award from Design and Design - Oct 2009

Steve Watson

Steve Watson is an Australian born designer working and living in the UK. After graduating in Industrial Design from the University of Queensland in 1997, he worked as an in-house designer for Fibre Light Systems before setting up his own design practice in 2000. Since then he has divided his time taking on commercial design commissions for interior projects and designing and producing items for his own home range. His designs include sofas, chairs, stools, lights and tableware.

His projects are quite cool i reckon, Have a look at some of the photos here:)

CASSIOPEA TABLE 2008

The Cassiopeia is a large glass topped dining table with cold rolled aluminium legs and bevelled edges. The dramatic sculptural base is formed from three laser cut cold-rolled aluminium pieces braced together in a structure reminiscent of elliptical orbital patterns.

The Dpsnp salt and pepper set is a product worthy of a double take, engaging the viewer and forcing them to rationalise what they are seeing; ‘is it, isn’t it?’. The glazed Royal Winton creamware base houses two hollowed vibrators modified to allow salt and pepper to flow from holes in the caps. Each base is hand finished to be individual, just as nature intended.

The Skase teacup set is based on the idea of symbiosis. A close, prolonged association between two or more different organisms of different species that may, but does not necessarily, benefit each member. The Skase is a cup and saucer for the post-modern world. The cup is made from white glazed creamware and is freed from the usual convention of requiring a flat base. It has a pleasingly tactile pointed shape and sits upon a cross base made from Manchurian walnut.

Yeaah it's submission day!

design fundamentals....one of the most demanding course of industrial design (it really is!).... after 4 weeks of torture and sleepless nights finally it's the day of submission.... =)

Just as we always do, each of us has to exhibit our work in the studio and all of our friends get to see it....

My designer is Patricia Urquiola, i'm not a big fan of her but yeah thankfully i can still manage to do patterns, posters and models about her design philosophy...eventhough i still wish i can do Marc Newson or even Campana brothers..

Here's my works:

i know mine's not the best....i am always wanting to improve my design skills...because when i look at other's work, i am both motivated and disappointed because i wish i can be as good as them... *human nature right!? =P

so yeaahhh it's done! hopefully i can get a good mark! *fingers crossed*
