PSS- Voice Translator Travel Gadget

TravelToGo Device Rationale

The brief is to design a product that can be easily shared (collaborative consumption) to prevent bad impact for the environment. I have come up with the idea to design a travelling device for tourist that is very useful for them as my research suggests that most tourist are frustrated with their lack of knowledge and language barrier making their travel experience not enjoyable. The device is a voice translator device that enables the tourists to speak in their own language and the device will recognize the words and translate it to the language that local people understand (the language is customizable) and the device will projected voices so it will enhance the tourists’ interaction with the local people and enable them to learn the culture and language when they are travelling.

The reason why I choose this product is because when I do my research, it shows that about 82% of population do not speak English and there are 72 widely spoken languages with thousands of other languages and dialects.

With the emerging technology, statistic shows only 20% of world population have a SMART phone although over than 5 billion people in the world use mobile phone. This happens due to their high price and lack of technological proficiency.

Even for the smart phone users, overseas mobile data costs extremely high while setting up a new mobile data using local provider is not worth it especially when you want to travel around different countries.

TravelGo provides a solution for all these issue, enabling the travellers to rent this gadget to enhance their travelling experience by diminishing language barrier and by providing information needed by the travellers. With the attachable prong it enables the user to charge easily. The travellers can also easily access and return the device from tourists kiosks, airports, or vending machines. The material is ABS as it will be rented, so robust material is needed to prevent breaks.
